Fiskardo Kefalonia GENERAL: Kefalonia is the largest of the 7-island complex in the Ionian Archipelago. With a surface area of 786.58 km2 and a population of approximately 39,000 permanent residents it is not overpopulated or overdeveloped, which provides for a relaxing holiday against a backdrop of spectacular natural beauty whilst offering a rich history.

Assos Kefalonia NATURE / SCENERY: Kefalonia is known for its beautiful beaches with crystal clear waters, beaches such as Myrtos Beach, Petani Beach, Xi Beach and many other sandy or pebble beaches all over the island. It also offers spectacular views due to it being a mountainous island. The highest peak of Mount Ainos stands at 1,628m and here you will find the unique black pine tree (Abies Cephalonica) as well as the wild horses (Equus Caballus breed). Every winter it snows on the mountain, which results in lovely waterfalls in spring, so you have the opportunity to hike or walk in really amazing natural scenery. You can also visit the cave of Drogarati, which is said to be 150 million years old, with its amazing stalagmites and stalactites; the acoustics in the cave will surprise you. Alternatively, you can take a boat ride on the underground lake of Melissani. Both are in the area of Sami and are easily accessible. See, too, other not-so-well-known caves such as Agalaki, Fterouso or St. Theodoros, which you can visit with the help of one of the outdoor activity groups. The Natural History museum in Davgata, the Olive Museum in Dilinata and the Wine and Vinegar Museum in Pessada offer you a chance to explore the history of Kefalonian produce.

Tombs in Tzannata Kefalonia HISTORY: The Island is very rich in history. You can visit archaeological sites dating back to 1500-1100 BC, sites such as the Mycenaean tombs in Tzanata near Poros and in Mazarakata, the Cyclopean Walls in Razata, the Roman Villa in Skala, and the Roman Grave Complex as well as a small ancient theatre, both in Fiscardo. In Argostoli you can visit a small Archaeological Museum which is known for its exhibits. In Argostoli you can also visit the Folklore Museum, where you can follow the history of the island from the time of the Venetian Occupation in the 14th century through to 1953 when the Big Earthquake struck the island. Enjoy a pleasant walk across the De Bosset Bridge whilst appreciating views of Argostoli. You can also go to the Venetian castle of St. George in the village of Castro, which is perched on the hill above the road to Poros from Argostoli; the capital of Kefalonia until 1757. The Venetian castle in Assos, which was once the capital of north Kefalonia, is one of the biggest castles in Greece. Many lighthouses are to be found around the coast of Kefalonia including the well-known light house of St. Theodoroi in the area of Fanari near Argostoli. You can visit many more historical sites dating from ancient times through the Venetian Occupation up to the Second World War and the earthquake of 1953.
